Conti Family

This family sounds sick. They are from Detroit and released this record on their own label. This selection is definitely the most useful on the LP the song is called "Little Bongo Boy". Enjoy this funky tune that's sure to make you groove. Come on boy, make those bongos roll!

Is this the same Conti Family whose insanely great track, "You've Got Me Goin' Baby" was on that Kon & Amir comp from a few months back? I think that group was The Fabulous Conti Family.

Cropsy said...

yea i think that was a different group because this LP is called sound of america and it does not have that track. I think someone might have messed that up on popsike. There doesn't seem to be a lot of info available on this record.

Anyone have an original release date on this?

Mandancer, it wasn't on the label and we didn't find anything on Google when we ripped it. Definitely mysterious.

Hi, "Little bongo boy" super track I know. Only knew the 45s which I'm still looking for. But on your posting I couldn't download it (it expired or didn't work otherwise). Can you sent the soundfile to my email (p dot wermelinger a*t bluewin dot ch) please? Also I like to add that LP to the Funk Lexikon. As it has no cover, can you send me a very good picture of both label sides? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks, Peter http://www.funk.ch/funk-lexikon.htm

'Little Bongo Boy' is definitely by The Fabulous Conti Band. the copy I found has a rather conservative family photo on the cover. peep it here: http://hosting11.imagecross.com/image-hosting-13/9523TheFabulousContiFamily.jpg

my bad, I typed The Fabulous Conti Band. I meant The Fabulous Conti Family. regardless, they're fabulous...

I knew a Jeff and Julie Conti back in early 1972, and they wrote and performed "Jesus music". They seemed to be connected with other Christian musicians who were floating around. This was in Indiana, PA. They had a house they called "House of Light" and had meetings with a wide assortment of "Jesus freaks" from the local university (Indiana Univ of PA) and other "floaters" passing through the area. Never knew what happened to them, and the guy pictured on the "fabulous" LP cover could be Jeff, but none of the females looked like Julie.

I first saw the Conti Family at the Lansing Mall in Lansing Michigan in, or around, the late 70's or early 80's. Is this the same family? If so, are there any updated family websites with pics and bios? When I saw them perform, I, like numerous others, were mesmerized by their music and family togetherness. I hope someone can help me relive a fond memory by giving me a website for the Conti Family. "Hey Look Me Over" was a song that I remember them singing, and one which my whole family learned the words to.

I also have fond memories of the Conti Family performing at the Kings Plaza Mall in Brooklyn, NY in the early 80's. My brother and I loved their show and hung out at the mall for hours to catch all their performances. We even bought their LP record from them. They always opened the show with "We're gonna live and live now...". They were all so talented. Does anyone have any information on their wherabouts?

there are at least two pressings of this LP. is that the back cover? the front has a black and white photo of the band. one of mine is covered with autographs on the back, while the other only has one. ones got a white label, the other has a blue label. there are a few albums too, i have another one with different tracks, and an alternate version of "little bongo boy" called "hey boogie mama"...its essentially the same track but with different lyrics. lemme know if you want an mp3.

Hi, A-ko. Yes, I'm interested in an mp3 of "Hey Boogie Mama" :)

They live in New Smyrna Beach Fl. and own a music academy. Theyre daughter Gina Cuchetti will be on the show The Voice I believe in the next few months. Theyre actual last name is Cuchetti.

I totally loved The Conti Family. I remember watching them perform at Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids, MI. I got to know Kathy Conti and was thrilled when we went and got a piece of apple pie at a restaurant in the mall (my mom came with us, of course). I must have been 12 years old, and she was around that age too. It felt cool hanging out with her. The last I heard they lived in New Smyrna Beach, FL and we saw Gino perform years ago at a restaurant/bar there. Would love an update on Kathy. She even gave me a record album during the show when she and Julie passed a few out for free. That was cool, especially to a kid.

Hey there everyone...I happened across this blog and read with interest because The Conti Family is my real family! My dad Stanley's older sister (and my auntie) Lillian and her husband (my uncle) Dick Cuchetti were the 'leaders' of the group, and it included my dad's younger sister (my auntie)Philomena Zelazny. The rest of the group were Lillian and Dick's children, (they had ten children in total!)my cousins of course!
Anyway, I'm in touch so i'll pass this along, i'm sure they'll enjoy it!

P.S. to "Judy", to give you a brief update on Kathy, she still lives in Wisconsin with her husband Mark, and they have four (now older) children.
;)

whoops, I forgot to add that that my name is Holly Zelazny and I can be found on Facebook, and it is correct that the family shared the 'real' last name of Cuchetti ~ Conti was their stage name. Feel free to look me up if you have no luck finding them under the 'Cuchetti' name, and i'll direct you to their current performing projects/websites, etc.
Cheers, :)

Hi, I'm Philomena Conti (aunt) and once a member of the Conti Family Musical Group. Thanks to all who commented on our family. Years have gone by and this family is still in the music business and are incredibly talented! I no longer perform but the majority of the family are performing to this day. Please go to their website at: www.theafterwhile.com and enjoy their fabulous vocals!

Just came across this album in my collection and got thinking.

It was given to by the Conti Family (actually by Dick) after they played Riverside High School in Dearborn Heights, MI back in the 1970s. I worked sound and lighting as a student there. I had the whole family re-autograph the back again in person. Us guys had a crush on Phil and the daughter!

They actually played Riverside twice but I'm not sure I ever really knew how, why, or by whom that gig got setup?

Very professional folks and, although the music was not my cup of tea then, we had a hell of alot of fun working both years.

To Philomena Conti -

My name is Ed Pulliam, and I managed the Janesville Mall in Wisconsin, where the Conti Family performed several times. I remember the old tour bus, I understand it was repainted in a movie or two. I had drinks with Dick at the Holiday Inn where you were staying, and he introduced me to those within earshot as Johnny Cash's brother. It was especially funny, because Dick didn't know that I knew the Cash family through a mutual friend.

Please say hello to the family for me.

Hi there.. I am a long time friend of the Conti Family and I used to tour with them when they were on the road. They disbanded in 1984, but alot of the family still performs at gigs. They moved to Florida in 1977 from Detroit, Michigan and most of the family still resides in Florida. Mr Conti also known by their original family name of Cuchetti, well they own the Cuchetti/Conti school of music down in Edgewater Florida. Google that name and you will get alot if info.. Hope that this helps everyones curiosity. MICKEY from Las Vegas,..

This family inspired me to become a musician. I'm friends with the Quatro family ( Suzi, Michael, Nancy,Pattie, Arlene). I had an Album signed by Dick, aka Richard Conti (Cuchetti) from the Macomb Mall gig in the early 70s I believe. I remember watching this very talented family performing with my dad. When we left the Mall that Christmas, I asked my dad if he would buy me a drum set. He bought me a cornet instead... but I've been playing drums for around 36 years in several groups and lucky enough to play with quite a few well knowns. For sure, the Conti family planted that seed in my heart.

Watched them at the Bandshell at the Minnesota State Fair in 1973-1975. My brother made fun of me, but I was a fan! Hmm.

Seems obvious that a number of people who posted here were barking up the wrong tree about who the Conti family really was. They were from Detroit, MI -- not Indiana. And none of their names were Jeff or Julie.

Saw the family perform at the Fisher theater in Detroit in the early 1970s. They were part of variety show.

Saw them perform at Eastland Mall near Detroit in the 70’s. Big fan!!
