Nobody is really sure who Moontight is, but when the reclusive edit maker passed along this spacey house concoction that is one part shuffle and one part soda fountain date night, I had to post it.

Long-lost DBJ contributor Deep Sang served me up with this nice re-arrangement of the Fantastic Aleems' weekend anthem. I recommend checking out more from Deep Sang and his buddies in the Sol Power clique at their site.
Since Fich is busy being a #djonaplane, I thought I'd chime in and present one of Lil Dave of the Illvibe Collective's new blends. Dave combined two certified party classics to create a new flavor of awesome:

Chicago has been pretty kind to us here at Year of the Edit, we've got another production by DJ Trew and After Disco Chicago. Big slow burn on this one!!

I put together this edit for my boys York Street Hustle - a full-on motown sound machine out of Philly. We are doing a show together this Friday at World Cafe Live - a couple live sets bookended by some funk and soul on the wheels by yours truly.

This week we head back to The Chi and our boy Tim Zawada, who has made a nice following for himself of late with his stellar edit work. He approached us about giving one of the cuts from Tugboat Edits 003 an exclusive release on the YOTE project and we were more than happy to oblige. It's especially apropos because this jam is a flip of one Mr. Abstract who has a little film in the works right about now. Maybe you've heard.

We've had Allen Craig and Sergio with us before on Year of the Edit, (and several times on DBJ), and they just hit us with another one for the project - a bouncy, slapbass experience!

This week's edit comes from my homie DJ Trew in Chicago. Many years ago, I stayed at Trew's crib for a few days, it was above a weird clock store and I think his roommate was Maker. Skinny and I had hopped in the car and driven all over the East Coast and the Midwest and hollered at anybody and everybody like "can we come play in your town." We played a few shows with Trew, traded some tunes and he introduced us to many of the folks that we still work with in the Chi to this day.
Trew is always on top of what's funky, and this edit he sent along is no exception. It's part of his "After Disco Chicago" project, which is a series of events, edits and mixes exploring the post-disco era. Right in the Dollar Bin Jams wheelhouse amirite?

This tune appeared about a year ago on the site, and then it went away, laid dormant, and now, with a slightly new mixdown, it's back just in time for July 4th.

Apologies for not putting up an edit last week, I was getting my whole steez back together after an awesome wedding and honeymoon.
This week we have an entry from Calgary's DJ A-Mac, who is a fellow traveler in the wonderful world of Moombahton. Like many of us, he's a DJ's DJ, making edits that work in the club. He has been kind enough to lace us up with an uptempo, Dutch-style peak-time joint which brings the 2011 NRG!

There will be no "Year of the Edit" entry next week - I'll be too busy on my honeymoon and as much as I love our readership, she outranks all y'all put together.
But don't despair, because I'm dropping a much-requested edit on you, an edit that is one of the very few requests I have made to the esteemed DJs at my own wedding. When you have pros on the job, they don't need much guidance.
This is a tune by the late, great Frankie Lymon. His second best known tune after "Why Do Fools Fall In Love." Originally a Bobby Day tune, there's a good Thurston Harris as well, Frankie wrecks shop on this. Basically, no matter where you drop this tune (or Dion's "Runaround Sue" for that matter), people from age 0-100 are going to drop what they are doing and dance. It's just that fun.
I took the OG and gave it a big, long intro with vocal dropouts and nice big drums - a big, high energy build. There's a solid break in the middle too.

Our good buddy Peter Dragontail laced us with this fantastic synthed out mix of XeX's "Svetlana." Super duper 80s dark synth vibes make this a real burner.
Look out for Peter Dragontail and Maggie Horn's upcoming release on T&A Records, the first of many projects in a brand-new brand-synergy mindfuck collab between Young Robots and Tittsworth and Ayres' powerhouse label!

This is an edit of a tune that has appeared previously on DBJ, packed with additional drums, synths and some extra guitar I tossed on top. I've been using this as a "last tune of the night" groove when I'm doin rap or funk sets and it the burtations get straight up heavy!

Big tune this week from Allen Craig of Yerba Buena Discos and our homie Sergio from the Bay. Shit is straight funky drum fire! I think this is a great contribution to the series and I hope you do too!

This week, it's my take on John Legend's cover of Adele's "Rolling In the Deep." Not an "edit" per se, but a full on remix. It's a cosmic boogie jam that's had a lot of support from my big tyme homies like Fool's Gold's Sammy Bananas and Nouveau Riche's Gavin Holland. Not to mention, cosigned by Dimitri from Paris!
We're open again for submissions to the Year of the Edit project - we've got a bunch of people cooking things up for us the next few weeks, so get in on the action!

For when the Menergy in the club needs some "shootin off," Patrick Cowley and Sylvester are certainly the duo you turn to. I took their famous San Fran italo anthem and gave it some new bump by lacing it up with a certain something.
If you're in Philly this Friday and you need a good dose of Menergy, make sure you stop by The Ball, where Strictly Rhythm's Elvis Suarez will be throwing down disco and house classics and future classics with yours truly.
