For Ruxbin's Mixedtape Exchange this year, I thought I'd make some sense of some of my vintage house 12"s. The Red Planet Will Appear Only When Your Mind Is Open

Sex in zero gravity is difficult, but it is possible with the power of techno. Eddie "Flashin" Fowlkes engineers a nice cosmic buildup on this track, in one of several contributions made to The Martian's discography by Detroit heavyweights, also including Mike Banks, Drexciya and Octave One to name a few.

Dancing in Outer Space

Good score here from Sweet Jane. Apparently, these are remixes of a disco classic, but there's no mistaking the signature sound of Masters at Work less than a minute into either of these tracks. The "Lunar Mix" is a straight-up Billy Werner jam, and the "Dubbed In Space version" is actually only somewhat more restrained...can't hold back that sax.

Strictly Marvelous

While waiting for a taping of The Colbert Report to start at the Annenberg Center a couple weeks ago, I wandered over to The Marvelous and cleaned them out of all the Strictly Rhythm I could find, at two bucks apiece. Here's the one I got from Physique, aka Ogi B, a "Serbian composer, keyboardist and house DJ living in London," according to Discogs.

There's just one mix of the first side (which Shawn Ryan is already threatening to edit in order to cut out the vocals), and I only included the superior version from the flip.
