Ja Guys
The Nipple to The Bottle 12" is truly a dollar bin jam. You should not have to look hard to find a copy. When you do, be sure to flip it over - the b side is a super strange dub of My Jamaican Guy.

Ain't Nothin' Dubbin On
Don't get me wrong, Gwen's vocals are fantastic, but so is Larry Levan's dub.

Owner Man Skank
I've been listening back through some neglected records, looking to sell them to someone who will appreciate them more than I have been. In doing so, I've also rediscovered a number of jams I still love and really enjoy. This Tapper Zukie produced 45 only dub is one of them.

Ariwa Dub Club
Mad Professor was still killing it in 96! This has a classic dub feel, but clocks in around 123 bpm. It might be handy to file it with your Rhythm & Sound tracks.

Buk-In-Hamm Palace (Sol Power Disco Dub)
The Sol Power crew and I recently finished this dubbed out rework of Peter Tosh's underground classic Buk-In-Hamm Palace. The original cooks, but we added some extra thump for the dance floor and chopped it up to heighten the tension. It's nearly 10 minutes long so feel free to drop it halfway through when the dub kicks in for the late night crowds... that's what we do!

Jimmy Cliff - Peace Officer

Speaking of Danny Krivit and white label edits with shadowy credits, can somebody tell me who does this crazy fucking dub of Jimmy Cliff's Peace Officer?
I think Jellybean Benitez does the ridonkulous Syreeta remix on the other side. If you wanna hear that, you're gonna have to go get your fingers dusty.

I've Seen That Face Before

I watched Roman Polanski's Frantic last night, and I had totally forgotten about this song being in it. Not a perfect film, but the club scene where Harrison Ford and Emmanuelle Seigner dance to this is exquisite. You can see it written all over his face, how he's torn between his desire for this exotic, sensual creature and the desperation to find his kidnapped wife, and this conflict results in some seriously awkward dancing, which doesn't at all come off as merely slapstick physical comedy but real, authentic bewilderment.
Also, this is the LP version; the single version is about a minute longer. Anyone have that?

Strictly for the Beardos: Nacht Und Nebel - Ready To Dance (DARKLORD Dub)

Do you wanna, do you wanna, do you wanna know,
What I'm gonna, what I'm gonna do?
I'm ready for dubbing, I'm ready to dub
I've been sitting on this track for a few years, unsure what to do with it. No disrespect meant to the late Patrick Nebel, but the vocals aren't exactly floor-filler material. The break at the end, however, is an absolute MONSTER and demands to be heard. So, with the help of Shawn Ryan, I assembled instrumental moments of this obscure Belgian post-punk/dance tune and created a dark and drippy dub.

Keep On Dubbing

Here's hoping the warm weather stays with us: one of my all time favorite albums, and the best thing ever done with a melodica. Clearly, I had a hard time choosing only one, two or even three cuts, but that still leaves two-thirds of a dub classic that belongs in your collection.

Bonus! Before Bob Marley, Alton Ellis was considered to be Jamaica's most soulful singer. This extended mix of "Can't Stand It" doesn't seem to be available on vinyl (at least according to Discogs) but it's a great find on CD, as this song simply should not stop after only two and a half minutes.

Praise Jah!

In the early 80's, Jah Wobble recorded some killer dubbed out post-punk material that is long overdue for some DBJ exposure. Invaders of the Heart is a hella spacey percussive track for innerspace voyages and bearded dancefloors. This track is the focal point of the post; everything else is just garnish.
The other songs are the better material from his 1980 album The Legend Lives On. For a while I was playing Blueberry Hill in sets, much to the dismay of anyone listening. Today Is The First Day meandered about too much, so I took a quick stab at giving it some direction.

Pigbag!!!

This band wore many hats, three of which are showcased here - Pigbag flavored disco-funk, dub and jazz. Hit the 'O' Deck and Six of One are off of their final 12" from 1983. The band broke up that year, so I imagine the single tanked. I just found my copy at Own Guru in Baltimore last weekend.
I used to use Schounda, a b-side from 1982, to open my dj sets. People don't really know what to expect after that.
