Capricorn

I rediscovered this crucial Italo jam on my shelves the other night. Capricorn is a Claudio Simonetti alias, so you know it's gonna be good & quirky. Enjoy a fresh rip:

Dance To The Beat

Earlier in the summer, I managed to scoop a copy of this lazy vocoder jammy jam. Here's a crispy rip for you:

Wake Up

Leftside Wobble tastefully edited this tasteless Ian Dury number. Fear not jammers, he didn't harm Ian's dirty verses.

Tropical Stations

Zurich's Lexx recently liberated this Martha & The Muffins jam from some cheese and was kind enough to share. Be sure to work this tropical flavored new wave cut into your end of summer playlist.

Sumphin' Sumphin'

Apparently JKriv first shared this back in 2010, so I'm a little late. Fortunately for us, he re-posted it today. Slow disco at it's finest. I can't wait until my Razor-N-Tape 12" arrives from Juno.

No More No War

I came across this slab of Italo cheese in a Montreal dollar bin. Nothing special, but I can get down with the message. Plus the cover art is dope.

"New God Flow" Ghostface Remix

This is a remix I threw together last night under the influence. It's like it was meant to be it sounds so smooth! Shake That Body Party That Body Come And Have A Good Time With G.O.D.

Hope you guys dig it!

Billy Who?

I discovered this cut on a Garage Classics 12" &  joined the ranks of listeners who will forever be grateful to that bootlegger for reissuing such amazing music. Not much is know about Billy & his friends, other than that they recoded this laid back disco tune and one other single. Thanks bootlegger and thanks Billy!

RCMP - White Light Mix #63

Paul and I put together an RCMP mix for the White Light Mix Series.  It's a meditation on themes of technological progress and the relative benefits and dangers of advanced technology. You can also dance to it, drive at night to it, and more.

Our mix is a collage of soundtrack and experimental electronic records, modern disco, chillwave sounds and some found footage narration.  We spent a lot of time putting it together, so we hope you'll enjoy it.

We're very honored to be a part of this mix series, which is made up pretty much exclusively of entries by artists I love and respect!  If you aren't familiar with the White Light Mixes, there are great mixes by Optimo, Leo Zero, Maxxi Soundsystem, Alan Braxe, Oliver, Neoteric, Ayres, Catchdubs, Fashen, Plastic Plates, Electric Youth, Cassian, In Flagranti, Gigamesh and many many more in there, so poke around. We're very honored to be involved with this great series!

Covers Part II

I was going back through a big pile of records that I ripped for Telephoned's (Fool's Gold) "Switchboard" party last winter.  It's a night dedicated to covers, and I've done a covers post before, so I figured I'd follow up.

Here are a couple of zips with some great covers.

(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - versions by Devo, Mountain and the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band.  Shouts to the dude in East LA who sold me a sealed copy of that 103rd Street record for a buck if I'd just help him "get these damn records off the lawn."

Satisfaction - Mediafire Zip

Sing A Simple Song - versions by West Street Mob (in an early '80s electro-rap stylee) and the ever-amazing Booker T and the MGs (who have an entire album of covers, including some utterly forgettable organ-driven schmaltz).

Tainted Love

Recently someone requested a re-up of a rip I posted way back in 2007. Since I stepped my ripping game up over the years and I'm a nice guy, I did a fresh rip for you guys. While listening to it, I realized this version sounds really thin in comparison to reissues of the original track. Perhaps it was the mastering or maybe it's the flimsy pressing. Whatever the case, I had a friend give it a light treatment in Ozone. It's still not going to trump the original version, but it sounds a little fuller now.

As for the music, here's a extended edit from 1982 of Gloria Jones' 1965 soul stomper "Tainted Love." Who created this and why are a mystery to me, but, shoddy pressing issues aside, it's well done. Maybe it's a response to the popularity of Soft Cell's cover from the year before. If anyone knows the story behind this, please leave a comment. Enjoy the extra couple minutes...

Geeeeeeeeeee Up

Gee Up is my favorite song on Kindness' album. Since it's less than 2 minutes long, I made an extended version for the DJs.

Ecstasy

Matthew Africa recently shared a tasteful extension of this Ohio Players classic. In his own words:
Recently I realized that when I DJ I don't play the Ohio Players' "Ecstasy" nearly enough. Although it's one of the most joyous records I know, it's not really a prime time sort of record and yet at 2:27 it's also too damn short for early or late in the night.

So I edited it.

I added no extra drums, no quantizing and not even a mixable intro. As a DJ, all of those things can be nice conveniences, but in my view there are some classics you can only fuck up and "Ecstasy" is one of them. Instead, I just made it a little longer and tried to do so in the least obtrusive way possible.
Pick up some knowledge jewels from his blog, I Wish You Would, and check out his radio show, 2 Busy Saying Yeah.

Our Generation

This week the legendary Nu-Mark posted a top shelf edit of Ernie Hines' mega classic "Our Generation." Dude had access to the multi tracks & even shares the instrumental and acapella! To access a download, you have to share your email address. It's a pain, but it's worth it!

Cave Jams

I do a monthly party called Universal Cave with my friends Anthony Vogdes, Brian Cassidy & Tony Modia. The motto is "forward, deep, and free" & it's reflected in the music. It's a great chance for me to bring out my post-punk & cosmic records, and I'm always trainspotting dub techno and random rock cuts from the guys. A couple months ago, we each contributed selections for our first mix. We spent some time sequencing the selections and I meticulously mixed them together. Here's the final result - forward, deep, and free in all of it's glory. Stream it or download it from Soundcloud below and, as always, comments are appreciated!
