Love Weather Dinner Party

Extra Lovely Records somehow managed to convince occasional DBJ contributor Vincent Smaldone aka DJ Image to open his top secret vault of tapes and share a few highlights. Under piles of random reels and unlabeled floppy discs, they unearthed Love Weather Dinner Party, an experimental turntablism album in the vein of Q-Bert's Wave Twisters, Mixmaster Mike's Anti Theft Device and D-Styles' Phantazmagorea: Psychedelic scratching and distorted drums with heaping helping of forgotten pop culture references make for a far out yet very flavorful Dinner Party.

Listen to a few tracks from the album below and head over to Extra Lovely's Bandcamp to pick up a limited edition (only 50) paint splattered cassette or files.

Instruments Used:

MPC2000, Homemade Electric Organ, VCR, Sony 1/4" Reel to Reel, Dr. 202, Turntables, Vestax 07 Pro, Vintage Keyboards, 4-track recorder, Adat, SK1. All Samples from vinyl and film. This project was created without a computer.

Btw peep the video of the after party at the Wobbly Barn in Killington, Vermont =Here! Enjoy the mix "30,000 Feet High" in 30 minutes. Peace Kidz

More from the Bar-b

In light of Dj Apt One's post yesterday I've decided to add a few more coals to the fire with one of my favorite barbecue jams by The Main Source entitled "Live At the Barbecue"! Nas is also on this record with one of his many amazing verses "When I was twelve I went to hell for snuffin Jesus" Nas. This is a classic I love more and more every time I hear it. Enjoy!

I Want It To Be Real

John Rocca killed this record. In fact, it was a number one hit on the US club play chart in 1984. Prior to this record John was the lead singer of the group Freeez who posted their number one hit "I.O.U." in 1983. Rocca went on to produce many bands, but charted his last number one hit "Shine" in 1993 with the group Midi Rain. Hope you enjoy the record as much as I do!

Get Yo Ass In This Tubbbbb!

What remix is this? It's my favorite thats fo-sure! I'm not sure why I don't hear "Feelin' On Yo Booty (Hypnosis Mix)" more often considering it's 127 bpm and shit. This track reminds me of the parties I would have at my crib after I would dj my high school dances. It was a cool way to get cute ladies to pay attention to you, well there is one in particular that comes to mind when I hear this joint. Anyway enjoy this funny throwback from 2001 bbbbbbbbooooty!

Slick Tour Wrap Up

The 3rd Rail Jam tour has come to a close and we ended it with a bang in Hollywood at the Kress night club. I had a blast in every city we rocked, it was such a amazing experience I can't wait till next year! On the tour I started to build a relationship with Slick Rick and his DJ Kaos and during a car ride from the Salt Lake airport to the hotel we started talking about what music we were feeling, so I mentioned the SP the Ghost mixtapes. I told Slick that I though he should do a couple verses to some new or classic tracks. The next week DJ Kaos hit me up and said he was sending over some freestyles Slick had made. So here are two exclusive freestyles for your listening pleasure, I think you will find the Slick Rick over Snoop's "I Wanna Rock" pretty useful. Enjoy!

Lone Ranger

My homie in Philadelphia Yung Harrison is a hard core reggae head and is always putting me on to great records including these two. I was digging in Maryland about a year ago and came across Lone Ranger's 12' "Donst Falla Romour" I quickly snatched it up when i realized it was sitting in a dollar bin and called my boy Harrison. I knew as soon as I listen to it on my portable turntable that it was fire, but i wanted to know more about the Lone Ranger. Yung Harrison was hype to know I found a copy and told me to download "M-16" as soon as i get home. Last week he emailed me asking for a rip of "Donst Falla Romour" so I gladly obliged! Here are two banging tracks from the homie Lone Ranger. Puff that good good then Enjoy!

On The Road With The Ruler

Since my last post I have visited Chicago and Salt Lake City on The 3rd Rail Jam Tour. The pics above are of (in order) New Jersey, Chicago and North Carolina - I crowd surfed in NC. During my trip I have mostly been kicking it with Slicks Rick's DJ, DJ Kaos - the dood is mad cool and we even went record shopping in Salt Lake! To bad we both have 10,000 records and we did not find anything yet :( lol

I had a chance in between Chicago and Salt Lake to return home and during that time i tried to think of a Slick Rick record that I could impress him with. I came up with the 1988 Al B Sure record "If I'm Not Your Lover" that featured Slick for a few verses. Just a side note, I bought the record when I was 12 years old. When we arrived at the Hotel in Chicago I pulled it out, but at first I was not going to say anything considering he is constantly being bothered by his fans to sign something or take a picture. Then his wife spotted it in my hand and said RICK! Slick looked at it and said WOW, he kind of took a step back as if he had forgotten about it. To say the least he was impressed. DJ Kaos then told me he had been looking for it for a while and asked me to rip it for him. So here it is, hope you enjoy. Next stop is in Los Angeles California!

PS: Remember to download the Slacker Radio app to your smart phone to support! It's free and if you like Pandora this blows it out the water.
