Beautiful Swimmers - O Yea...Music Video!
Beautiful Swimmers - O Yea
Video by Aurora Halal & Ashiq Khonder
Big ups to all of the Philly friends who made it out this past Saturday to see DC's Beautiful Swimmers in action at Kung Fu Necktie. It's always nice to see what a different crew from a different region likes to pack. Lots of weird beard disco, forgotten proto-house relics, TRAXX anthems, and a touch of booty bass. If you were there, you know what I mean.
The real treat for me was hearing their original material, just released to 12" on Max D's label, Future Times. Think deep drum machines chugging along in a stoned discotheque of future's past, drenched in all types of SLEAZE (e.g. reverberated saxophones). In a beautiful dance floor moment, Shawn Ryan turned to me and exclaimed, "Wait...this is one of THEIRS?" and proceeded to storm the booth.
I'm not going to rip the 12" because all you bamas should buy a copy.

Hey Baltimore...
I'm gonna be all up in you this Thursday! Like the flyer says, disco, post-punk and more. Apparently the place has good friend chicken too!
And now here are some completely unrelated mp3s...
I just found this track in my collection today and it's the jam.

Fans of rap music take note, DJ Cable just posted a nice blend of Missy Elliott and Souls of Mischief.
WTF is This?
OK, just gripped up THIS record and ripped this nice little tropical house jam and accapella. However, it's unattributed and I can't find any solid info on what it might be. Based on the drum patterning and general sound my guess would be DJ Gregory or maybe DJ Spen but based on what I've found on the interwebs, I can't call it. I get the feeling the name of the track is incorrect because my high school French training tells me that the grammar is incorrect.
anyways, here's the track and the accapella in exchange for a little help folks -

Hot Date
Quality 80s funk/soul jam from hyper-talented West Philly Music School grad Billy Paul, best known for his early 70s hit Me And Mrs. Jones. This is the only uptempo cut from Paul's first album after the end of his relationship with Philly International Records- this is from Total Experience.
Sorry about the dirty-sounding record.

All Night Long
The OG is a certified classic. The instrumental was actually released as the b-side to their following single, "Boys," which I just scored from Beautiful World's dollar bin today. As icing on the cake, I've included a rare Danger Mouse blend Ed Blammo put me on to at Tequila Sunrise last summer. Version away selectah brothas...

Flaco Ritmo
I'm not positive, but I think this translates to "skinny rhythm." Great Chicago-style house with some light acid touches.

Strictly for the Beardos: Nacht Und Nebel - Ready To Dance (DARKLORD Dub)
Do you wanna, do you wanna, do you wanna know,
What I'm gonna, what I'm gonna do?
I'm ready for dubbing, I'm ready to dub
I've been sitting on this track for a few years, unsure what to do with it. No disrespect meant to the late Patrick Nebel, but the vocals aren't exactly floor-filler material. The break at the end, however, is an absolute MONSTER and demands to be heard. So, with the help of Shawn Ryan, I assembled instrumental moments of this obscure Belgian post-punk/dance tune and created a dark and drippy dub.

Nas is Dead
Aiight this is my last Nas post unless this sparks something that calls for a continuation, hence Nas is Dead. "Take it in Blood" is my shit and i love to be able to say i can recite all three verses word for word from the original song. Recently I've stumbled upon part 2. Nas f%#$ing kills part 2 but I cannot find any version except this mixtape cut with the DJ hollerin all over it. However I did try to polish up the levels and some clean compression. This should be the best version of Part 2 on the net. RIP Stainless Steele's Nas Series...maybe.

Plus other P-Funk members. The track we're doing uses tapes of a lost analog 4-track jam session from back in the day. I've basically been peeing my pants about this news for about 48 hours.

TV On The Radio remix
Been sittin on this one. New bassline. I made a version that kept more of the vocals in but it didn't really sound right.
You may remember Snoop's red dress cognac bottle from his appearance on Martha Stewart Living. FTW, of course.
