Hurrah with Razor-N-Tape

On Saturday, the Razor-N-Tape crew are making their Philadelphia debut at Hurrah! Between R-N-T and Deep&Disco's outputs, they have tracks for days and all of them groove. Plus Aaron Dae & JKriv are great DJs! For a taste of their edits, check the Soundcloud players below and for more info on the party, follow these links:

Special Agent Man

I finally picked up a copy of this 12" for the Female Version, and discovered this slower, twisted dub mix tucked away on the B side.

Magnifique is a killer, one-off Italo groove. So killer that Morgan Geist covered it in 2004.

Waiting For You

Last week I tweeted that I would release a free edit on soundcloud as a token of thanks for reaching 3,000 followers. So, as promised, here's a tune from my vault of recent edits and bootlegs I make for my DJ sets.

This is a bootleg of a tune from Kris Menace's recent LP, Features. If you enjoy this edit, please support Kris' work and buy some of his music. His whole discography is fantastic.

Can anyone identify the original version of this one?

2012 Highlights

There were an abundance of awesome music released in 2012, making it yet another difficult year to summarize concisely. We did our best to narrow it down for this mix, but (like every year since we've started) we easily had enough picks to fill a 3 CD set. Many of our top tracks didn't make the cut, but the 30 tracks on here certainly make for a decent glimpse at 2012.

Disco Unleaded

This Thursday is the first installment of my new pedal-to-the-metal monthly at Philly's newest venue, Soundgarden Hall. Here's the deal - Actual Records, Shawn Ryan and I are going to be bringing you the best national and international house and disco headliners with ample doses local support and good vibes. The party is every second Thursday in the new back-room venue called The Hacienda, it runs late and it's BYOB. Bring a case of beer or a bottle of liquor or wine and the staff will put it on ice for you and provide you with mixers. Yeah, you can bring a case of beer and party all night for just five bucks. If you're under 21, you can party too! Oh, and it gets better, our first guest is my main man Eli Escobar.

Every time I have rocked with Eli or heard him play live, I've thought "this man sells a record better than anybody." What I mean is that Eli can play a set that consists almost entirely of what I consider to be "risky" records to play - jams that might need a few tracks to set up in order to get the crowd on board. But Eli SELLS the damn thing - with subtlety he shows you why this is a damn good record. Really, it's a pleasure to hear the man play music. At the risk of being too laudatory, I should also mention that he has a great production resume and has remixed Lana Del Rey, Bag Raiders, Diplo, M.I.A., Chromeo, Holy Ghost!, Pase Rock, Jessica 6, Dirty Vegas, Ali Love, and Amanda Blank. So there's that.

So, it's decided. See you this Thursday! (Of course, all other Thursdays of the month you can still catch me at Red Room with Ed Blammo!)

"in the drivers' seat"
Eli Escobar (Plant Music /Tiki Disco, NYC)

with residents
DJ Apt One (Young Robots / Dollar Bin Jams, PHL)
Shawn Ryan (Hurrah / Dollar Bin Jams, PHL)

and local support from
Johnny V (House of Hearts, PHL) and DJ Dayo (Pure, PHL)

The Hacienda - Back Room at Soundgarden Hall

Doors at 8:30
BYOB ONLY. B as much of Y O as you want. Mixers and ice available.
