My Block
Hey remember the Block Party? Remember how last summer we invaded a Jimmy Buffet-assed outdoor club on the river and played Shalamar and Freeway joints from a bandshell every Wednesday night? News flash - that shit is back! (New venue though)
This year, I’ve teamed up with Sammy Slice of Mo Money No Problems and the Soul Travelers to bring you the ‘09 version of the Block Party - EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT. Starting TONIGHT it goes down at the Institute, 12th and Green Streets. I’ll be kicking it off and Sammy will join in next week.
Get your proper dose of hip hop, funk, soul, disco, club, house and all the summer jam classics - past, present and future.
$3 at the door, $2 lagers and $4 jager til midnight plus free Wii booths!
And who knows - a little birdie told me that we might have some special outdoors fun lined up for a little later in the summer.

Planet Caravan
ANOE just posted this top notch Sabbath edit. Steef transformed Planet Caravan into a handy DJ tool with the addition of some tasteful drums and percussion. For the sake of my vinyl only friends, I can only hope this gets pressed someday.

Digger Joint
I found this 45 a few years back at a record show early in the morning. This track really isn't that great until the breaks, which are conveniently marked for those Serato users out there. But don't sleep - these breaks are amazing and a secret weapon of mine at any B-boy/B-girl jam. Speaking of B-boy/B-girl jams, I will be spinning at the Hexagon Space in Baltimore on June 4th, so if your around check it out. Until then enjoy this little gem.

Through out the EP the tracks are composed with experimental blips, classic nintendo samples, and synthesized pads that sound like they have traveled through space for quite some time now.Hover over this link and download this EP now for a bad trip into the future.

Change - The End (Pitched Down)
One of the best feelings in the record digging world is taking a chance on an LP and finding just one gem tucked away on the B-side. Fairly easy to come by, The Glow of Love by Change contains one such precious stone, allll the way at the end of the LP - hence the song title.
One of three songs on the album produced by Paolo Gianolio, this tune is an intergalactic juggernaut, steamrolling dance floors across the universe. Just check out the break...even Moroder would blush!
Note: I've taken the liberty of pitching this one down for you. It grooves a bit harder at 120 than at 128!

Time to Get Sleazy: Nobody Loves a Computer (DARKLORD Edit)
Hoo boy! Shawn Ryan at the controls on this one. I pulled it out of a box at BWS and as soon as the needle dropped, I knew I had to rescue it (and who could pass on that legendary ASCII porn sleeve?). The OG is a twelve minute game show/love boat disco disaster...100% guaranteed to clear any dance floor. We trimmed out all those nasty bits, and left only the most drug-addled, sleazy and somehow uplifting elements.
As soon as the Parisian robot voice (sans vocoder) kicks in, you know you're in for something special. By the time the disco mermaids are doing their sea chant, you're already in it to win it.
Hint for the DBJ crüe: watch out for that outro! It's a booby trap designed to annihilate DJs who don't listen to the music they spin. ;)

Do It Anyway You Wanna
Here's a super sweet jam that I ripped but it didn't make it onto that Best of Philly Disco mix I dropped earlier this week. (If you haven't checked it out yet you're doing yourself a disservice.)
I wanted to start the mix with People's Choice Do It Anyway You Wanna and end with the Cashmere version. Alas William DeVaughn has no equal as a closer, so this track missed the cut.
I have a couple edits I made specifically for the mix that didn't make it either just because they didn't fit with the flow. Those will be posted later rest assured.

Live From Korea
This past weekend I went to the Jeonju International Film Festival (전주국제영화제). Cyon sponsored a B-Boy Championship on the main stage that Saturday, which was also Buddah's birthday (neither here nor there). I had some time to kill before my next film started, and it didn't take long for me to get sucked in. The championship was jaw-dropping and hilarious, if not for the credible talent of Seoul's finest crews then for the pure Korean machismo that was put into it. The DJ burned through tracks as you'd expect, scratching everything from Chubb Rock's Treat 'em Right to Wu Tang's Protect Ya Neck but keeping it strictly East Coast. These kids definitely felt tough as shit on stage with their Korean girlfriends watching (some of the hottest Korean girls I've seen so far). I was told, if you want a hot Korean girlfriend, you just have to spin on your head. I'll stick to DJing, but that shit was cool.

DJ Apt One - Best of Philly Disco
I just did a mix for Emynd and Bo Bliz's "1st and 15th" mixseries on Crossfadedbacon.com. It's the "Best of Philly Disco." Every song meets one of the following qualifications-
1. Made by a Philly-born/bred artistTracklist:
2. Made by an artist on a Philly record label
3. Written/Arranged/Composed someone strongly associated with the Philly sound
4. Played by a Philly label’s house band
1. People’s Choice – Do It Any Way You Wanna (7”) – TSOP, 1975
2. Sister Sledge – Lost In Music (12” Remix) – Atlantic, 1984
3. Bell & James – Livin It Up (Friday Night) (FitForUse Edit) – A&M, 1979 / White
4. McFadden & Whitehead – Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now – Phila Int’l, 1978
5. McFadden & Whitehead – Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now (Phillies Version) – Phila Int’l, 1981
6. McFadden & Whitehead f/ The Liberty Bells – Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now (Eagles Version) – Phila Int’l, 1981
7. Montana Sextet - Heavy Vibes (Club Mix) – Virgin, 1982
8. MFSB – Love Is The Message (Mr K. Special Edit) – TD, 198?
9. First Choice – Let No Man Put Asunder (Shep Pettibone Mix) – Salsoul,1983
10. Loleatta Halloway – Love Sensation (Shep Pettibone Mix) – Salsoul, 1983
11. Evelyn King – I Can’t Take It – RCA Victor, 1981
12. Dexter Wansel – It’s Been Cool (12” Version) – Phila. Int’l, 1979
13. Direct Current – Everybody Here Must Party – TEC, 1979
14. Q- The Voice of Q – Philly World, 1982
15. Pieces of A Dream – Mt. Airy Groove (Instrumental) – Elektra, 1982
16. Frankie Smith – Double Dutch Bus – WMOT, 1980
17. Broad Street Band f/ Bruce Grey – Work Your Body – Tempre, 1984
18. Archie Bell – Any Time Is Right (DJ Apt One Edit) – Beckett, 1981 / White
19. William DeVaughn – Be Thankful For What You’ve Got (Disco Version) – WMOT, 1980
Obviously, there are some records that didn't make the cut, and for some artists I deliberately used more obscure cuts (see: Dexter Wansel) to keep things interesting. All in all though, a fun listen and a great opportunity to dig out a few sleeper cuts in my record collection that I don't use much.

Where My Alcoholics At?
I got this record when I was in 9th grade through mail order from B-more - damn I'm getting old. It's a great DJ tool I still drop when the party is hype by none other than DJ Boobie. If you don't know him check him out - he has a lot of bangers. Hope you Dollar bin Jammers have fun with this. Enjoy!

Inside America
I found a Garage Classics bootleg 12" with this track on it today at Beautiful World. It didn't occur to me until half way through my first listen that Sneak recently flipped a sample from this track. Then I remembered Billy W's excitement when we first heard Wink drop the Sneak version at Inciting. Anyway, here's another sweet jam...

My House, Your House
Before you head out tonight, tune into Bryon Stout's internet radio show "Righteous Jams" on MyHouse-YourHouse. I'll be doing a live guest mix from about 7 to 8 p.m. EST, and then Bryon will play for another couple hours while we slosh around with margaritas. It'll be dope. Oh, and this will all be documented by a live webcam broadcasting on the site. The perfect soundtrack for your pregame!
