DC duo Chris Burns & Gavin Holland are switching things up a bit. They've dropped the Party Bros moniker in favor of Mysteries Of The Mind (which is also their vinyl imprint.). I'd say it's a more fitting name for their strain of spacious & dreamy sounds. Their newest EP is fantastic, even surpassing their solid 2012 debut 12". I'm going to bump this thing non-stop on summer nights and mornings, and when we finally have hover cars, I'm going to bump it in that too! Dreamlike textures and hypnotic percussion are the focus of “Aracari,” an enchanting A-Side featuring a vocalist who simply goes by... Jane. M.O.T.M.’s swirling delays, endangered bird calls and a resilient bassline instantly transport the atmosphere of your local nightclub or hiking trail. Burns’s Montreal/Bombay connection, Greg Pidcock of Hot Creations, fruitfully delivers a thumping club interpretation that will surely make the rounds of outdoor gatherings around the globe in 2014.

Turning towards the murkier depths of sexual fantasy and personal misery, the Aracari B-Side delivers 3 productions bound only by a common tempo range . Taking a cue from late night urban radio, “Soft Focus” delivers a shimmering result that highlights advances in modern digital production techniques. Guitarist Kevin Bayly (of Brett) and Baltimore songwriter Symbol both pitch in on this original take of contemporary Rhythm and Blues music. Chugging along with a punch-drunk drum track, “Sloppy Seconds” heaves with nervous energy and intolerant melodic flashes. “Partial Victory,” a late-night dancehall experiment in the pan-global corporate struggle, finishes off the B-side with a bubbly call to arms.

The Party Bros. (aka Chris Burns & Gavin Holland) have a fresh remix of Mike Simonetti's Third of the Storms for you. It's a stripped-down, dubby burner that strikes a unique balance between mechanical and human. It's not often that I encounter minimal tracks that I'd like to hear during the daytime.

Mysteries Of The Mind

Between Future Times' astral textures and U Street Music Hall's subs, Washington DC's been making lots of waves in electronic music lately. And the capitol's momentum is still building! Now two of it's most eclectic DJs, Chris Burns & Gavin Holland, have launched their own imprint, Mysteries Of The Mind. Dedicated to releasing quality electronic music on vinyl, MOTM is off to a strong start with a 4 track 12" from Chris & Gavin's Party Bros. project. The A-side is a quirky hommage to DC's Malcolm X Park, but the real gems are the Balearic as fuck b-sides. "Heartstones" transports me to a washed out VHS beach universe where I can feel my white pants bunching up as I gawk at babes in neon bathing suites & "Arboretum" is all I can hear in my opium nod free love dreams on the beach. Washington DC's Party Bros (Chris Burns & Gavin Holland) finished up this epic house jam just in time for your weekend rave set. These guys deliver the finest in huge synths, booming bass and epic breaks. Here's a few words from Chris:

Stoked on this new joint that Gavin and I worked hard to put together. We sampled one of our favorite jock jams of the 90s and used it in the tasteful context of a peaktime houser.
