This is a tribute mix to one of my favorite disco labels of all time, Warner Bros., that I made for Marcus Dowling's music/culture blog, TGRIonline.com. Most of these are big time classics, but I've tried to throw in a few surprises from WB subsidiaries like RFC, Whitfield, and Curtom as well. It's always a tough thing to make a tribute mix for a label like WB that had so many hits, so I can't call this a "best of," but it's definitely got a lot of my favorites on it. Hope yall like the tunes, and if you're on soundcloud don't forget to leave a comment telling me how awesome/wack you think it is!

Here's a little about Morgan for those who don't know...
This New Jersey native was initially inspired by England's take on the sound of Detroit, but eventually tracked techno back to its Motor City innovators. When he began listening to music, however, it was the sound of early-'80s synth heroes like Devo, Severed Heads and New Order alongside early hip-hop, jazz and 60s Hindi film soundtracks.
Geist released his first 12" (via Dan Curtin's innovative Metamorphic label) while studying at Oberlin College in 1994. He formed Environ soon after, releasing powerful statements of purpose which showed his affinity for the more emotive strains of disco, techno, soul and all flavors in between. His debut album was released in 1997 and licensed to EastWest/Warner.
Geist continues to run Environ today. A highly-regarded remixer and producer both solo and as half of Metro Area, Geist has lent his touch to a wide range of artists including Hugh Masekela, Telex, Erlend Oye and The Rapture
And of course there's the music itself. This doesn't top the OG but it's the best flip of it:

Once a month my homie Record Ric pulls up to my house with a trunk full of fresh wax for me to dig through. This month I found "Disco Dance" by Michele. It is pretty sick and a nice addition to anyones collection. Enjoy dat sun!
A few weeks ago I had the privilege of opening for The P Funk All Stars! To say the least the show was a blast and I am glad I got to kick it with the whole crew! After the show I received a email from the club about a P Funk fan who wanted a copy of the opening set I spun. Unfortunately I didn't record the set, but I was hype to hear dood like my records so I made this all vinyl one take mix for him, P Funk drops and all! Fresh Funk part 1 by Vincent Smaldone/Dj Image
Another club friendly rework from Bribane's Young Edits. This is gonna sound epic on Kung Fu Necktie's sound system. Check the Steppin Out Facebook event here.
Here's a little edit I threw together when Bird Brain dropped last November. It's a combination of both versions of Monster Island and a verse from Nas' Halftime. I challenge you to find a use for it...
Looks like the Illvibe Collective is giving their new collection of blends away for free! Featuring Freeway, Aaliyah, Kanye, Biggie, Kool Keith & more!

I have a new single out today on DJ Eleven's 11-Inch Records - some deep and funky disco jams that will most certainly go well with your mesh tank top and your best dancing shoes. Really excited that Eleven (of the world famous Rub) gave me the opportunity to get these tunes out there and we'll be celebrating this Thursday, July 15th at Von in NYC (3 Bleecker Street in the basement).
The record is available today at iTunes and Gigacrate, and I'll update the site with links to Turntable Lab, Juno and Amazon as those go live (been a bit of a distro snafu).
Holy Hype Machine, Dollar Bin Jams has two exclusive cuts from the upcoming Perseo Edits 12"s for you!!! Perseo happens to be the new edits offshoot of Italians Do It Better, so you know these jams will be solid. So far they have a 12" of mysterious house edits from Mike Simonetti, a pair of Springsteen edits by Vogel & some amazing Italo revamps by Bottin slated for vinyl release. Preorder the goods from Piccadilly Records. Don't sleep, there will only be 400 copies of each 12" with no repress.
downloads available until July 19...

In light of Dj Apt One's post yesterday I've decided to add a few more coals to the fire with one of my favorite barbecue jams by The Main Source entitled "Live At the Barbecue"! Nas is also on this record with one of his many amazing verses "When I was twelve I went to hell for snuffin Jesus" Nas. This is a classic I love more and more every time I hear it. Enjoy!
