Everybody Party

Kon's extended edit of The Firebolts - Everybody Party. Pardon the sound quality - the On Track 12" this was ripped from had dodgy sound quality. Anyway, that should not stop you from partying!

Michael The Lion Mix for Soul Clap

"This mix is made up of tunes that are the musical lineage or the musical forbears of the Michael The Lion persona. Over the years I have produced tons of tracks and edits as DJ Apt One and with my group RCMP - many of which came to ultimately make up the basis of the Michael The Lion sound. These are those tunes, combined with some Michael The Lion songs, including Funk Train."

If you dig the tunes, click through to DL or buy them, depending on their availability.

Tracklist:

1. Frank Ocean - Pyramids (DJ Apt One Disco Dub)
2. Diana Ross - Love Hangover (DJ Apt One Edit)
3. Michael The Lion f/ Amy Douglas - Funk Train
4. Michael The Lion f/ Sammy Bananas - 909s and Herb
5. RCMP - Men's Rhythm

7. DJ Apt One - RC Groove
8. Archie Bell - Any Time Is Right (DJ Apt One Edit)
9. Michael The Lion - Side of Life

Start The World / You've Got Style

Universal Cave Records 003 pairs another record digging and DJ duo, Philadelphia's D. Lord and Werner Williams. D. Lord's 'Start the World' is stampeding euro funk with chainsawing clav and an unrelenting bass groove. Maximum funk effect achieved with vital precision. Werner Williams' 'You've Got Style' exudes cool. It's one part psychedelic synth groove and one part cockeyed classic rock, soaring harmonies & juju for days - a long lost cousin to Fox's 'The Juggler.'

Limited 7" available now from Juno, Pacific Beach Vinyl and a bunch of other sellers. See the full list on Soundcloud. Vinyl only - no digital.

DJ Apt One - Live Italo Mix on WKDU FM

Here's a live mix I threw down on WKDU in Philadelphia during their Electronic Music Marathon in October.  I was the self-nominated "roots of electronic music" presenter.  Lots of italo and classic electro 12 inches alongside my own edits.  Kinda sloppy on the mixing but I make no apologies, I did a 4 hour set and then came over to the radio station and threw down from 2-4 AM while gassed up on Red Bull.

Here's the tracklist, enjoy:

The Splash Band - The End (Assault on Precinct 13)
Kano - Ikeya-Seki
Baby's Gang - Happy Song
Plastic Mode - Mi Amor
Yaz - Situation (12" dub)
Tom Hooker - Real Men (12" mix)
Mr. Flagio - Take A Chance (DJ Apt One Edit)
International Music System - Run Away
Quadrant Six - Body Mechanic
Information Society - Running
Extra T's - ET Boogie (12" instrumental)
Man Parrish - Boogie Down Bronx
Royal Cash - Radio Activity
Connie - Experience
M&;G - When I Let You Down
Charlie - Spacer Woman
Gary Low - I Want You
Vivien Vee - Remember
Gino Soccio - Dancer
Immortals - Ultimate Warlord
DJ Apt One - Four Four Walk
Munich Machine - Space Warrior (DJ Apt One Edit)
Ken Laszlo - Hey Hey Guy
Sylvester & Patrick Cowley - Menerg
yPaul Parker - Right On Target
Hott City - Feelin' Love

Michael The Lion - Funk Train 12" (Soul Clap)

I'm very happy to finally announce the new single from my funky alter-ego Michael The Lion - a vinyl-only joint on Soul Clap called "Funk Train." This one has been in the works for a while, but it's well worth the wait. Heavy bass-driven funk with the amazing Amy Douglas on vocals and yours truly playing a whole buncha instruments including the guitar he got for his Bar Mitzvah back in 1996. Mixing by the singular mister Sammy Bananas.

When we last checked in with Michael The Lion, he was remixing Todd Edwards and Robert Lux on Young Robots, so the bar was kind of high for the next release. Enter Soul Clap, some of the globe-trottinest, funk-lovinest, beard-havinest dudes. Amy had worked with them before, my sometime collaborators FSQ had worked with them before, so this one comes fully out of their "Crew Love" concept. My tune (and the A-side, a sublime cut by Juice Belushi) were staples on the Crew Love summer tour, and the boys graciously asked me to lend my cut to this 12". Really, really, very truly honored to be a part of the fam.

In a strange twist - this record actually came out in early October ... and SOLD OUT on presales alone, so we shelved the advertising push until we had a record to sell. So I'd suggest that you cop this record ASAP, because if it sold out once with no advertising, who knows about the second time around!

Many thanks for all the support as always from DBJ family.  I got to test drive some of this (and other forthcoming) Michael The Lion material in front of many of you in San Francisco, Toronto, Paris and elsewhere this past year, and I'm very grateful for the opportunity.
