Golden Round Circus
It's been a while, but Universal Cave couldn't fool around no more: we have a new 45 available now, featuring two edits from Stockholm's The Keeper! UC005 is music for sideways times when down is up and up is down. “Golden Round Circus” and “I Couldn’t Fool Around No More” are spiritual kin to Michael Wynn Band’s “Black Night” and Straight Shooter’s “Frame of Mind.” Piccadilly Records summed it up well:
“"Golden Round Circus" takes your breath away from the off, sucking you into a zero gravity groove before the metallic synths, reverb soaked snares and trippy sequences make lights and colours swirl before your eyes. Weird delayed vocals and snaking synth lines take things to the next level, turning your brain inside out while your limbs move of their own accord. B-side cut, "I Couldn't Fool Around No More" dons its boat shoes and gets stuck into a tasty yacht boogie, soaring into the sunset on open drum breaks, guitar solos and multitracked harmonies. One for cosmic heads and Balearic beards alike, this offering from the Fasaan man is another essential release for Universal Cave.”

Falling Out Of Love
Sharegroove's DJ Duckcomb touched up a cosmic obscurity, removing some cheese. According to Duckcomb, "Parts of the song sound edited but aren't! Dig the cosmic synths and heavy guitars on here... enjoy!"

Why Don't You Dub?
Smile Recordings is gradually making all of the vinyl only Mindless Boogie edits available digitally. For free. As WAV files. If you don't know, now you know.
Here's the Rove Dogs' take on Eberhard Schoener's "Why Don't You Answer?" featuring Sting on vocals. The Rove Dogs edits are some of my favorite from the series. Grab a wav, say "thanks" and check their Smile Recordings 'Edits' set for other goodies from Todd Terje & In Flagranti. I'll continue to post my favorites here too - some of these are solid gold.

Respect to Snikars

This mix by L.I.E.S. mastermind Ron Morelli has been on heavy rotation for the past few months, so I thought I'd share. It was recorded for the Noise In My Head radio show & most of the records were purchased at Snikars Records in Stockholm. I gotta book a flight to Sweden soon!

Legends

"Some people just wanna clean the city up. You know, you get sick of these junkies and freaks everywhere. Skulking around, following you, grabbing your wife. But that Tom Guycot got in too deep. Sure, he rattled all the punks good for a while. But after A-Number-1, The Big Man got word of him and that chain, Tom didn't have a chance..."

The Astral Dancer

Ryan T. & Billy W. have finally released an official Robotique mixtape! Though they've been DJing together for a few years, Astral Dancer is their first collaborative mix. I gotta say it was worth waiting for - they've clearly spent all of that time unearthing some mysterious jams. Plus it's literally a tape! They made 25 cassettes & ripped it from one. Be sure to download this one - it's a sonic journey like no other.

It's the time of the season...
It is now October 1st, which means that it is time for this year's all-soundtrack mix! Shawn Ryan and I worked closely on this one, meeting every Monday night, leaving a wasteland of Dunkin' Donuts cups & wrappers in our wake (Shawn Ryan runs on Dunkin'™).
This one has a distinctly more psyched-out vibe than the last one: you can really feel the drugs kicking in at 19 minutes...and just when you think they're wearing off, it's time for a little ride on a Huey above the jungles of Vietnam (Heading Two Seven Zee-ro).
About a mile up, Big Duke 60 switches the music on, and it's back to dancing naked in a moonlit field. Wraps up with some mysterious sleaze which is sure to leave the disco junkies asking, "Whaaa?".

DARKLORD Presenta - Il Suono Scuro
The first of what I hope to be a series of soundtrack mixes. Being October and all, I opted to leave out a stack of my funkier records and instead concentrate on the dark and dissonant sounds of the silver screen. A few classics (Flashing, Baseball Furies Chase), a few weird unknowns (Alien Earth, One Foot In Heaven) an original and an edit help to keep things a bit more interesting than the typical Halloween-time jock jams mix. At least, I think so...
The mix is also available in a physical format, CD to be specific, with really handsome artwork designed by Megan Mitchell. If anyone is interested, please send me a message (either here or on myspace) with your address and I will mail you a copy for FREE!
Big ups to Shawn Ryan for helping me turn a pile of moldy records into a veritable, balanced mix.
Enjoy!
