This week's edit comes to us from Mike 2600 out of Minneapolis, a dude who has long been known for top notch DJing, digging chops and graphic design. I first saw Mike play in a basement in St. Louis in the late 90s, and I was impressed as hell with him then, and I haven't ceased to be since.

Mike dropped a nice little party break which brings a hype New Orleans bounce and old school gangsta walk flavor to the B.O.B./Bruno Mars smasher from last year.

Good thing, because even though all the ladies of the Big 10 will still get hype about the OG, it's the kinda tune that has Fake Ghostface saying things like

Ayo these little cushion niggas is violatin my gate son... Aint nobody draggin yall tenderhearted bitches over to where a nigga be enlightenin his disciples namsayin...Yalls aint worthy of no palms on ya face you jus be gettin those short backhanded slaps nahmean. Yalls gotta earn closed fists nahmean. ...Yalls aint a niggas clientele like that...Ayo matter fact Imma keep talkin bout those soft niggas that yalls is defendin like that anyway. Namsayin... Word bond that nigga Aubrey jump on a beat n he go soft as a muthafucka ey single time son. The nigga on some Bruno Mars shit. N that snow nigga Asher he alright...a nigga aint wanna throw him off no mountain or nothin like that...but he got custard in his heart son. Ya nigga Charles Hamiltons a human speedbag son...Summa yall cant handle that truth...You aint cut from divine fabrics like that namsayin... These soft niggas even breathe on you n you gon be spittin nursery rhymes over Lady Gaga joints and coppin Scions n shit. Yall gon be rockin rubber jewelry n fruit salad outfits n shit.

So basically what I'm sayin is that now you have an edit of a tune with a Bruno Mars hook that you can play without compromising your street-wise image.

RIP Nate Dogg

The man, the legend, the voice of g-funk, Nate Dogg passed away last night, and he'll leave a big void. Dude was just straight up proper on everything he touched and he really WAS the West Coast sound for so long.

This week's edit comes to you courtesy of Chicago via Philly DJ Thomzilla of the Broadzilla family. Thom held it down at Philly's legendary Making Time parties for years before relocating to the Windy City this past fall on a hot dog eating scholarship.

This smooth edit of the Hot Chocolate classic has a super cosmic feel - almost soundtracky. Perfect burner for early night warmups or 4 AM drugged out cosmic action!

Pop music since it's inception has always been a swirling, contorted amalgamation of melodic, rhythmic, and visual concepts. We believe there are no coincidences that it's effortless to mix the drum breaks for Stone Roses' "Fools Gold" to Bobby Byrds' "Hot Pants, I'm Comin'" or Stereo MC's "Connected" with Jimmy Bo Horne's "Let Me Be Your Lover." These genres feed off of one another and will prove to be a veritable musical summit on February 18th - our debut is a 2-floor blow-out at Philadelphia's beacon of Bacchanalia, The Barbary (951 Frankford Avenue). Happy Valentine's Day from the City of Brotherly Love! I've got some gifts for you!

About 10 minutes into creating my "Best of Philly Disco" mix in 2009, I immediately realized that at least one, if not two sequels were necessary. In trying to represent so many facets of this prolific time in Philly's music history (and make a tasteful mix), I realized that one mix couldn't cover it all.

Here again are the criteria I used to select the tunes:

1. Made by a Philly-born/bred artist
2. Made by an artist on a Philly record label
3. Written/Arranged/Composed someone strongly associated with the Philly sound
4. Played by a Philly label’s house band

This volume is dedicated to the memory of the great Teddy Pendergrass, who passed away in 2010.
