XLR8R Mag's Labels We Love Compilation

We're super excited that XLR8R magazine chose RCMP's Ibiza, PA to be the lead track on Volume 1 of its "Labels We Love" compilation series. Shoutouts to Flamin Hotz, which released the RCMP vinyl, for being such a class act that we got to be involved with this project. The comp is out exclusively on iTunes starting today. Other entries on the record are from L-Vis 1990, Renaissance Man and Marcel Dettmann among others.

Grab it here.

Keep an eye out for the Young Robots digital version of the RCMP EP, dropping on all digital outlets big and small March 9th along with a single for Mustache Love. We just put the new Young Robots label site live, so check it out if you have a chance.

Thee Headcoats

Siiiiiiiick mid-90s garage rock covers of two of my favorite punk tunes - The Lurkers' "Shadow" & Chelsea's "No Escape." Sadly, I couldn't find any photos of the 45's label and hand stamped sleeve.

Hot & Use First

I picked both of these up in Dublin in 2005. The shop might have been called Bassbin? Not sure, but Simon Conway put me on to these. Anyway, I'd like to post a couple of the tracks, but first I want to determine if these are edits. I'm suspicious of the Section 25 & Chris and Cosey cuts because they are a different length than the other versions on Discogs. This verion of "Looking From a Hilltop" sounds like a re-edit of the megamix. Does anyone out there have any info on these?

Here are the Discogs entries...

Frankie Beverly & Maze - Before I Let Go (DJ Apt One Intro)

One of THE greatest songs of all time. My buddy Brendan Bring'em dropped his own intro edit of this track a few weeks back while we were chillaxin on some beers, but it was a tape edit type thing he'd done a long time ago - I figured I'd go the quantized route and I cut it up myself, but hat tip to Bren for the inspiration. All about the proper drop to this song. For the record, I didn't touch anything else about the song, because the thing is just too good for words and some things shouldn't be fucked with.

Sex Mix

Last year I was looking for a Frankie Goes To Hollywood cut that Ron Hardy used to open his sets when I am across this strange gem. Don't associate the stigma of the cheesy radio version with this 16 minute epic. This version is a whole different animal - a dark, droning but funky electronic journey through heavy fog.

There are over 70 different versions of the Relax single with numerous mixes, including shorter versions of the Sex Mix. I don't care to sort it out, but I thought some of you might like a heads up.

Still Slacking on Slacker Radio, Slick Rick and 3rd Rail Jams?

Heading to North Carolina for week two of my tour with 3rd Rail Jams, Slick Rick and my favorite sponsor Slacker Radio! Slacker is the shit if you haven't logged in yet stop sleepin and do it now, it's free = Here! Plus while you are browsing Dollar Bin Jams make sure to click on the Slacker Radio player below to get a preview of what you can expect to hear on the 3rd Rail channel I programed.

The first show in NJ was sick the place was slammed as soon as the doors opened. Slick Rick murdered it with no hype-man just him and his dj (Dj Kaos). Not to mention I had the place going crazy to "93 till Infinity" right before "The Ruler" stepped on stage lol. This week's featured Slick Rick track is "Just Another Case" which comes courtesy of the 90's group CRU from their Lp entitled "Da Dirty 30". Slick has a nice featured verse on this track that adds the perfect amount of flavor to satisfy your 90's hip-hop appetite. Peep it and stay tuned in for more fun Slick Rick (The Ruler) tracks and the North Carolina show update!!!

Wake Up Everybody

Couldn't get this song out of my head over the last few days, so I decided to make a more mixable version to play out tonight, and included a bit of gospel flavor with lots of hand percussion.

New Party Bros Track!

Washington DC's Party Bros (Chris Burns & Gavin Holland) finished up this epic house jam just in time for your weekend rave set. These guys deliver the finest in huge synths, booming bass and epic breaks. Here's a few words from Chris:

Stoked on this new joint that Gavin and I worked hard to put together. We sampled one of our favorite jock jams of the 90s and used it in the tasteful context of a peaktime houser.

Share The Night

Calling all italo fans! The boys of Bodyshine have finally blessed the world with a mix, which I now have the pleasure of sharing with you. Here's a little description from Jeffrey:

Better late than never. We finally put a mix together, I guess we're like real DJs now. Ha. So anyway this Saturday we will be giving away FREE copies of SHARE THE NIGHT, it will also be the LAST Bodyshine at KFN. Don't fret, the night will live on. Next month we're moving on to bigger better things! Feb 13th we're putting on the first(technically second) installment of Night Shift @ the Ox. Myself, Matt P, Kyle, Toney M + Guests will be throwing it down until the wee hours. A monthly warehouse gig is also in the works. So keep your eyes and ears open.

If you're in Philadelphia this Saturday & craving some deep grooves, be sure to check out the last Bodyshine at Kung Fu Necktie.

RIP Teddy Pendergrass

I was planning on putting up about a half dozen rips to honor the man, the legend, Teddy Pendergrass, who passed away tonight at Bryn Mawr Hospital not five miles from where I sit, but instead I'll just put up two favorites and leave it to you to go and cop Love TKO, Close the Door and others to help pay for the flowers at the man's funeral.

It wasn't long ago that I was standing outside a bar on Baltimore Avenue with a man in his seventies who was telling me about his short-lived doo-wop career in the early 60s in Philly. Somehow the subject came to Mister Teddy P, and the man said something to the effect of "he used to be a drummer, but once Harold Melvin found out he could sing, the man turned into the hugest asshole you ever did see."
