To The Beat Yall
I realize I've been MIA on the blog lately and I'm gonna try to get back in the regular swing of things. To start things off, here are a couple of disco rap jams that share the same title.
First up is Lady B's classic Philly track from 1979. Her raps... ehhhhh but it's one of the first recorded female raps and she holds her own ok. I buy disco rap records kinda compulsively, so if you are into early rap tracks definitely check this one.
The instrumental for Lady B is a cover of Direct Current's "Everybody Here Must Party," which totally rules, so I've included it as well. It's another Philly track on TEC.

The other To The Beat Y'all is much better. Big time boogie/rap jam that you can definitely play out. Big ups to my homie Andrew over at People's Potential Unlimited/Earcave for hooking me up with this one.

Thriller - DJ Apt One Remix
Diva & Jones have a nice house edit of Thriller, but it's not heavy on the MJ (or the Vincent Price for that matter), which is exactly what this spooky time of year demands.

Derek's Daily 45
For anyone who's not familiar with Derek's Daily 45, it's easily one of my favorite mp3 blogs. Derek is a California based musician and record collector who is generous enough to archive his rare 45s and share them with the world. I currently have a playlist of 100 tracks from him, so I'd say the quality of his posts is unparalleled. Below are links to a couple of my recent favorites to get you started. If you enjoy what you hear, get on his email list and all of the 45s will come straight to your inbox.

Swag Rave
Earlier this year DJ Apt One, Skinny Friedman, Billy W. and myself set out to record a mix for all of the party people at Metropolis. September 2009 saw the release of Swag Rave, which has only been available on CD until now. We thought it would be nice to present our collaboration to DBJ readers. With jams ranging from Patrick Cowley, The Clash & Grace Jones to Cubic Zirconia, Crazy Cousinz & Duck Sauce, this should be a fun listen for you.

Robotique Mixtape 3.0 : Our Fall House
I am happy to offer the third Robotique Mixtape, programmed and mixed with love. The mix was put together using two 1200's, an Ecler Nuo2 mixer and was recorded direct to CD. There was no digital manipulation or computer editing of any sort and the mix was recorded in one take on the evening of October 1. If you are listening through iTunes, I suggest using the "Dance" equalizer setting. Tracklist is available upon request.
For those of you in and around Philly, I have a very busy week - Wednesday is the launch of a new weekly I am involved in called TROUNCE. Finally, there is a dance destination on Wednesday nights.
Friday, we welcome local hero Ed Blammo to Robotique. Saturday, I am opening for Kraak and Smaak at World Cafe Live and then playing into the morning hours at Pi Lam in West Philly. Get in touch for details on that one.
See you soon and thanks for the support.

Chicago
I'll be out in the Midwest this week. On Wednesday you can catch me at Casba in Indianapolis with Scott Matelic, Action Jackson and DLake. Friday I'll be at EvilOlive in Chicago with my main man DJ Zebo. Hence this tasty, familiar white label edit:

It's the time of the season...
It is now October 1st, which means that it is time for this year's all-soundtrack mix! Shawn Ryan and I worked closely on this one, meeting every Monday night, leaving a wasteland of Dunkin' Donuts cups & wrappers in our wake (Shawn Ryan runs on Dunkin'™).
This one has a distinctly more psyched-out vibe than the last one: you can really feel the drugs kicking in at 19 minutes...and just when you think they're wearing off, it's time for a little ride on a Huey above the jungles of Vietnam (Heading Two Seven Zee-ro).
About a mile up, Big Duke 60 switches the music on, and it's back to dancing naked in a moonlit field. Wraps up with some mysterious sleaze which is sure to leave the disco junkies asking, "Whaaa?".

Exclusive Sharegroove Mix!
I met Duckcomb (aka Patrick) and Steve Shakewell of Brooklyn's Sharegroove in the middle of a forest while on acid and an ecstasy tablet. Literally. We were all DJ'ing together at a 3-day party and I was immediately impressed with their records and how they chose to play them. We had a conversation about an eventual Philadelphia booking and finally the time is here.
The Sharegroove boys will be at Robotique this Friday night and they have graciously provided some sonic memorabilia for us to share.
First up is a new mix that the boys constructed exclusively for the Robotique family. Giving us an exclusive mix is like being beat into the gang, only a bit more pleasant.
Download that joint here. (P.S. the Berlin track that opens the mix is a mindblower. You've heard it at Robotique, thanks to these dudes who forced us to go back and dust it off.)
Tracklist:
1. Berlin - "Sex (I'm A...)"
2. Tortuga - "Grand Drum (Instrumental)"
3. Mark E - "Human"
4. Tafuri - "Was That All It Was (Dub Retraction)"
5. Slowhouse - "Untitled"
6. Two of China - "Los Niños Del Parque (Corrida Mix)"
7 Mandrill - "Feeling Good"(Theo Parrish Re-Eedit)
8. Curtis Mayfield - "How Do You Like To Be Loved"
9. D'llegance - "Chanson D'llegance (Disconet Remix)"
10. The Cool Notes - "I Forgot"
11. B.T. Express - "Can't Stop Groovin' Now (Wanna Do It Some More)"
12. L. Springsteen - "On Your Knees (Vocal Mix)"
13. Liz Torres - "Mama's Boy"(Dub)"
14. Patrick Cowley - "Primitive World"
15. The Vision - "Sharde"
They've also been kind enough to share a dope Kool & The Gang edit that Duckcomb put together:

I Hear Music In The Streets Again
I promised i would post the hip-hop track that sampled "I Hear Music In The Street" by Unlimited Touch the other day so hear it is. Rampage The Last Boy Scout's "Take It To The Streets". They slowed down the original and looped it then stole the chorus. I remember hearing this on mad mix tapes when it dropped everyone was cutting up the part where Rampage says "Upside down I'm a turn it out" on some back to back ish lol. Hope you Enjoy!

Bambaataa's Theme
OK, so I dropped this at 2099 the other night, and we couldn't get the timeline straight as to the re-use of the Assault on Precinct 13 Theme - did this Afrika Bambaataa track come before or after the Splash Band? Did the Splash Band play the main theme? Did this sample that or the original soundtrack or was it replayed?
DBJ-ers, help a brother out.
